Hanguangmian Expressway Expansion Project Doubles Reinforcing Cage Production with Intelligent Steel Processing Equipment

As a vital section of the G5 Beijing-Kunming Expressway within China’s national "Ten Vertical & Ten Horizontal" comprehensive transportation corridor, the Hanguangmian Expressway Expansion Project acts as the major northbound traffic artery connecting Sichuan with other provinces, playing an indispensable role in the regional transportation network. To meet the project’s high-standard and high-efficiency construction requirements, the construction site has deployed a double-line steel bar sawing, threading & grinding production line and a fully automatic reinforcing cage welding station to build an intelligent steel processing system.

With the coordinated operation of the complete automated equipment, the processing time for a single reinforcing cage has been cut from 2 hours to 45 minutes, lifting the overall construction efficiency by 100%. Traditional manual fabrication of reinforcing cages tends to deliver inconsistent product quality. Conventional reinforcing cage rolling welding machines also feature complicated working procedures and low efficiency in installing stiffening rings.

Targeting these long-standing industry challenges, the adopted production line applies an innovative process of one-step framework forming for main bars and stiffening rings, which greatly streamlines the cage framework production. In addition, fully automatic welding robots are adopted for spiral winding welding. Compared with previous-generation equipment, the overall production efficiency has increased by nearly another 100%.

The successful deployment of this intelligent production line effectively addresses the shortcomings of low efficiency and unstable quality in traditional processing methods. It has accelerated the transformation and upgrading of China’s reinforcing cage manufacturing industry towards intelligence and high productivity, and also provided an advanced and replicable intelligent construction solution for similar expressway infrastructure projects across the country.
